Shirley Manson and the band Garbage have a new album dropping in May. The alternative rock band that sold millions of albums, wrote a great James Bond theme and racked up Grammys is finally back. Shirley and the band's co-founder/drummer Butch Vig talked to Vanity Fair about why they haven't done an album since 2005, and why they have sympathy for Lana del Ray and the backlash against her.
After the band broke up, Shirley wanted to do her own album. But the record label hated all her songs, they thought they were too dark. They told her she should try to do more upbeat pop songs, like Katy Perry does. Eventually she decided she prefers writing with her bandmates and thus the new album was born.
Along the way she also had a great guest starring role on The Sarah Connor Chronicles as one scary liquid metal T-1001 Terminator. We're just glad the band has a new album.
